Let's look at some typical examples.


All the terms inside the brackets are multiplied by the term in front of the brackets. 



The term can also be after the brackets. The same multiplication rule applies as above. 


 
Always pay attention to the order of operations. 

Multiplication comes before addition and subtraction. If there is a number in front of two sets of brackets, multiply the brackets together and save the results in one set of brackets. Next multiply all the terms in the brackets with the number outside the brackets and remove the brackets.  Remember to change the sign if the number multiplied by is negative
