Lesson 1
Let’s look at some examples:
Example 1 |
First a simple multiplication. We put both fractions over the same division
line and cancel out the common factor. |
Example
2 |
When we divide by a fraction we
turn the dividing fraction round and change the division into a
multiplication. If there are no common factors to cancel out we multiply
the numerators together and the denominators together. |
Example
3 |
When we divide a
fraction by another fraction we change the dividing line into a division
sign. Now we can continue in the same way as in example 2. |
Example
4 |
First we add together the fractions in the numerator. |
Now we have a fraction in both the numerator and denominator and can
continue as in the previous example. |
Example
5 |
First add
the
fractions in the numerator together .Next change the dividing line into a division sign and turn the dividing
fraction round so that we can change the division to a multiplication. |
Now put the two fractions together over the same line and cancel out the
common factors. |
Example
6 |
First add the
fractions in the numerator together. |
Next change the dividing line into a division sign. |
Then turn the dividing fraction round so that we can change the division to a
multiplication. |
Now put the two fractions together over the same line and cancel out the
common factors. |
